Possible impacts of VPN

Modified on Mon, 20 Apr at 8:40 AM

BecauseVPN runs in the background and uses a VPN, some users may notice changes in device behaviour. These are normal under certain conditions.

You may notice:

  • slightly slower internet speeds on some networks
  • brief disconnects and automatic reconnections
  • some apps or websites not working while the VPN is connected
  • higher battery use compared to not having the app installed

These effects are more likely when:

  • Wi‑Fi or mobile data is weak or unstable
  • networks are congested
  • battery-saving features restrict background activity
  • other VPNs or "network protection" apps are installed

If the internet connection drops or switches (for example, between Wi‑Fi and mobile data), the VPN must reconnect as well.

The app is built to balance accurate measurement with everyday device use.

The app and VPN are designed to:

  • only route traffic required for measurement
  • avoid blocking or modifying content
  • reconnect automatically when the network changes
  • respect device-level privacy and permission controls

Even with these safeguards, performance can vary due to factors outside TRPs control, such as network conditions, operating system behaviour, and manufacturer-specific settings.
